The origin of this festival dates back to a dispute occurred on the last Wednesday of August 1945 on the place of Buñol at which people began to throw tomatoes. The following year, young people began again, voluntarily this time, the event which then entered the story. This festival was banned several times before being finally approved in 1957 and then organized by the city council.
The rules are simple Tomatina:
• The bottles are prohibited and any object that could cause an accident.
• It is forbidden to tear and throw T-shirts.
• Tomatoes must be crushed before being launched to not hurt anyone.
• Be careful when passing trucks that dump the tomatoes.
• At the second shot, the fight must be stopped.
At 11 o'clock precisely, the cries of "Tomato, tomato, tomato" announce the start of the festivities and a can of water is thrown into the air to announce the start of hostilities. At this signal, the truckloads of tomatoes damaged that can not be offered for sale advancing in procession to the beat of honking. Those who climbed into the trailer start to launch the first tomatoes. Finally, the vehicle stops and releases its load: when the crowd starts to stock up on tomatoes, and within seconds, places are tinted red. An hour later, at noon, heard the second explosion that ends the battle. Then comes the hard task of cleaning water jet the brave participants who are already thinking about the next Tomatina, and the scene of the battle that quickly finds its aspect of every day.
