The population of Tunisia

ads
Unlike Morocco and Algeria, some Berbers still speak their language, and the Berber culture has survived only on the northern edge of the Sahara and Djerba.

The Tunisian population is young, but the policy of family planning and the importance of emigration has increased its growth rate below 2%.
Sport of choice for Tunisian football is represented by its national team, the Carthage Eagles, one of the best in Africa. This has qualified several times for the finals of the World Cup in 1978, 1998, 2002 and 2006 (without succeeding, however, until now, to pass the first round). In 2004, Tunisia hosted the African Cup of Nations, which she won in the general jubilation 2-1 against his old rival of Morocco. In 2006 and 2008, it has been received in the quarterfinals.

The Tunisian club teams are also among the best in the continent: Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunis) and Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Sousse) arrive regularly in Inter-final competitions and regularly dominate the national championships. These take place from early October to late March, the matches played on Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 15h. The support of fans at a club in particular often seems to depend on social class, especially in Tunis.

Most Tunisians are Sunni Muslims and belong to the Maliki school, which offers application and interpretation of the Koran are less rigid than the other currents. There are also some Ibadites installed on the island of Djerba, and Sufis, belonging to the spiritual and mystical movement of Islam, closely followed by the Berbers in the south.
